Organisers say all are welcome to come along to the free launch event at Mayfield Nursery, Weston, on Saturday, July 2 from noon until 5pm.
At the nursery people can connect with gardening and craft activities, and a memory cafe is starting in the autumn.
All are welcome to the launch, where there will be live music and refreshments on sale. There is no admission charge to the nursery.
A booklet, The Early Diagnosis of Dementia in Southampton will also be launched.
It’s been written by Katherine Barbour and Ros Simpson (retired GP) to give to people who have concerns about their memory. It is also aimed at carers, health professionals, housing support workers and city council workers who may meet people in the early stages of dementia through their work.
In Riverside Park there will be a picnic on Wednesday, July 13 from 3pm to 5pm, meeting at the car park by the model railway. This is for anyone who fancies coming along: “bring your own furniture and picnic to share” is the suggestion.
The festival culminates on Saturday, July 16 with a larger gathering at St James' Park, Shirley, from noon to 5pm, which will include stalls, live music, a tea tent, information about dementia and services available locally, an awareness session about dementia, face painting and toys for small children.
“Come along and bring the family to learn more about how one can live well with dementia in spite of the real challenges for both the sufferer and their family,” say organisers.
There’s more information on Facebook including details of further events as they are announced.
