Whitworth houseboat application gets go-ahead

whitworth crescent street sceneAn application to build moorings for four houseboats on the shore of the Itchen, off Whitworth Crescent, received approval from the council's Planning Panel on Tuesday (August 4).

Two local residents and Bitterne Park Conservative councillor John Inglis spoke at the meeting to object to the plans, and there had been various other resident objections to the proposal.

Cllr Inglis said there are increasing parking problems in Whitworth Crescent, and this wouldn't be helped by the proposal, approved in June, to create three houses and six flats with five parking spaces over the road at 74 Whitworth Crescent. He thought there could also be pressure on parking from the forthcoming retirement development by Cobden Bridge, where building work is due to start in November.

The planning officer's report to the committee is here.
