There were some surreal moments, and it was a powerful sound, as The Sea Slugs belted Afrobeat across the Triangle on Sunday (Sept 13).
There were several surreal moments: when passengers disembarked from a number 16 bus and found themselves almost part of a nine-piece popup Afrobeat band; when an ambulance sped past with siren wailing – almost, but not quite, fusing with the music; when a driver started to park between band and onlookers and suddenly tuned in to what was going on – and thought better of it; when a singer asked onlookers the time and then remembered he was standing beneath a 43-foot clock tower; and when a dancer was spotted above the Advanced Exterior Plastics shop, bottle of unidentified pink beverage in hand, brimmed hat on head, clearly having a great time.
And it was a powerful Sunday sound, as The Sea Slugs busked for probably an hour and a half, attracting a bunch of onlookers, with many finally moving in when invited to cross the road and get close up, some dancing in a parking space, during the final number.
