Helicopter aids police hunt for wanted man in Bitterne Park

police car trent rd mh 460Police gave chase on foot, and requested assistance from the National Police Air Service helicopter, on Wednesday morning (July 17) after a "wanted man" was spotted in Avon Road in Bitterne Park.

A police spokesperson told bitternepark.info that "an extensive search of the area commenced" just after 10am.

Residents reported the helicopter flying over the area for at least an hour, and seeing a number of police cars around Trent Road, Midanbury Lane and the Witts Hill areas. One resident said "at least six" police vehicles were involved.

The search stopped just after midday.

Police said the man was not arrested, and "enquiries to locate him are ongoing".

It's not currently known whether there was any distruption to flights in and out of the airport as a result of the helicopter. The airport were contacted for comment.
