Sainsbury's are carrying out public consultation ahead of resubmitting a planning application to build a supermarket, medical centre, flats and houses on the site of the First Bus Depot. Local people are being invited to share their views on how the plan has changed, including at Portswood Library this Friday and Saturday.
The plan was rejected last year, since when Sainsburys have revisited their design.

Changes to the original plan include:
- Car parking will now be underground
- Layout of the residential areas has been changed
- More trees are to be preserved
- Traffic calming is proposed on nearby streets
- A play area has been added

Sainsbury's is undertaking a programme of consultation ahead of the submission. A leaflet drop to houses in the Portswood, Bevois Town, Swaythling & Bassett wards apparently took place last Thursday, although several Bevois Town residents report not having received the leaflet at the time of writing. Leaflets have not been dropped in Bitterne Park.
Meetings have also been held with some local residents groups, where issues of access, traffic calming and noise were aired.
A public exhibition about Sainsbury's plans will be held in Portswood Library on Friday 15th 3pm to 7pm and Saturday 16th February, 10am to 3pm. Sainsburys representatives will be on hand.
