Detectives from Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Crime Team have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body in Bitterne Park. {!jomcomment}
Police were called following reports that a woman had been stabbed at an address in Harcourt Road.
When officers arrived at the property they found a woman lying unconscious.
Despite attempts by South Central Ambulance staff to resuscitate her she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speaking at a media briefing outside the scene on Wednesday (July 7), Inspector Mark Hull from Bitterne police station, said:
“Detectives from Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Crime team have launched an investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body at an address behind me in Harcourt Road, Bitterne.
“When officers arrived at the property just after 11am today they found a 38-year-old woman unconscious and with stab wounds.
“This afternoon a 37-year-old man from the Southampton area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being interviewed at a police station in Hampshire.
“Police would like to hear from anyone living or working in the Harcourt Road area who may have seen or heard anything unusual, or anyone acting suspiciously, to please contact the police.”
