Sainsburys revised plans for a supermarket on the Portswood Bus Depot site have today been submitted to the Council. If the plan gets the go ahead, Sainsburys hope to be open by 2010.
The plan for the bus depot site was previously rejected, but has been rejigged following consultation. The number of parking spaces - now in an underground car park - has been reduced from 400 to 325, and these will be for use by all Portswood shoppers, not just Sainsbury's customers.
The plans include what Sainsbury's describe as a "medium sized" 40,000 sq ft food store, a medical centre, around 120 flats, and 22 town houses. Sainsbury's aim to capture the weekly supermarket spend that currently goes to stores such as Asda in the City Centre and Chandlers Ford, or Tesco at Winnall and Bursledon.
First Bus will be relocating to a site near Town Quay.
