Police are issuing an urgent appeal for information after an air rifle was stolen during a burglary at the Southampton University Boat Hard and Rifle Range in Mead Crescent, Swaythling.
Police say burglars forced their way into the water sports office at about 5.30pm on Wednesday, July 7.
The burglary wasn’t discovered until Thursday (July 15), when a member of ground staff arrived at work.
An air arms .22 black and woodstock air rifle, housed in a black case, was stolen along with 50 pellets.
Two Dell laptop computers worth approximately Ł850, a projector worth Ł600-Ł700 and Ł1,000 in cash were also taken.
Detective Sergeant Will Whale said: “This ‘sniper style’ rifle could prove extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.
“I want this gun back it should not be on the streets. I’m appealing for anyone who has it or knows of its whereabouts to contact me urgently. I have this message for who ever has it: If you are found to have it illegally you could go to prison so I advise you give it back now.”
