Most schools are closed today, including Bitterne Park Infant, Junior and Secondary (Year 11 can collect work from the site between 10am and 1pm) schools. Also St Denys Primary, Portswood Primary School, The Gregg School, Barton Peveril, Itchen and Taunton's Colleges, St Mary's College, Bitterne C of E Infant School, Bitterne C of E Junior School, Bitterne Manor Primary School, Highfield C of E Primary School, Mansbridge Primary School, Portswood Primary School, Townhill Infants School, Townhill Junior School closed.

Romanse travel info (Fri 3.51pm) says: "The unsalted side roads are very icy, use extreme care.
Traffic is moving freely with care on the motorways. All local roads affected by ice, use extreme caution and only travel if necessary. Traffic volume is light, but slow moving."
We received the following report late Fri morning: "Cars having trouble getting up Dimond Hill from the crossroads with Bond/Sandringham Rds. Also slippery on Midanbury Lane towards Cobden Ave where two cars had a little bump earlier this morning."
Airport: is now open. Contact airlines for latest info as flights disrupted.
Buses: "Delays on most public transport routes" . The 3 route is now reported as operating as normal, says Romanse. Detailed bus info here

Ferries: reported to be running normally.
The University of Southampton and the Students' Union will be closed again (Fri 3) according to their websites. Turner Sims has also cancelled Friday's Courtney Pine gig due to University closure, they have Tweeted. (Result of NUS affiliation vote expected around 9.30pm - check portswood.info).

Health: Bitterne NHS Walk-In Centre unconfirmed Friday. All GP surgeries in NHS Southampton City area are operational Fri, "but patients are advised to call or visit for serious or urgent problems only. Remember to Choose Well and stay safe in the winter weather" - advises the NHS. Bitterne Sexual Health Clinic has been cancelled today - for emergency contraception go to RSH Hospital or your local pharmacist.
"Emergency doctors at Southampton General Hospital are urging members of the public not to venture outside in the current freezing weather conditions." - more

Weather predictions for Thurs pm / Friday:
"The snow is expected to clear later on today but weather experts say the temperature will plummet to minus 12 degrees centigrade tonight." reports the Daily Echo for Thursday evening. Blimey - that really is cold! Time to get to grips with the tog system...
"Icy stretches will form on untreated surfaces, also where snow has already fallen, and where melted snow re-freezes." says the Met Office.
The BBC suggests that Thursday evening temperatures will drop to minus 4, and Friday daytime the maximum temperature will be minus 2 degrees. Is the heating actually ON in here?
