When he reached the junction of Belmont Road and Westridge Road he was struck to the side of the head with what is believed to be a glass tumbler. The attacker is described as a young man wearing a distinctive green t-shirt. Its believed he got on the train at Southsea.
There appears to have been no obvious reason why the man was attacked and officers are now asking for anyone who thinks they saw the assault or the man who carried it out to contact them. They are also interested in hearing from anyone who saw the victim after he was assaulted.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sergeant Stuart Baker at Bitterne CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 088 555 111.
