Man attacked in Portswood after getting off St Denys train

st denys station Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked in Portswood shortly after getting off a train at St Denys Station.

They say as the 31-year-old got off at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, July 25 he was followed off the train by another man. When he reached the junction of Belmont Road and Westridge Road he was struck to the side of the head with what is believed to be a glass tumbler. It left the victim with lacerations to his head and face and a black eye. He had to be treated at Southampton General Hospital for his injuries where he received eight stitches.

The attacker is described as a young man wearing a distinctive green t-shirt. It’s believed he got on the train at Southsea.

There appears to have been no obvious reason why the man was attacked and officers are now asking for anyone who thinks they saw the assault or the man who carried it out to contact them. They are also interested in hearing from anyone who saw the victim after he was assaulted.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sergeant Stuart Baker at Bitterne CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 088 555 111.
