Meeting to discuss TV show 'Immigration Street'

A community meeting has been called on Tuesday (July 22) to discuss ‘Immigration Street’, a new series from the makers of ‘Benefits Street’, that’s being filmed around Southampton’s Derby Road area.

Newtown Residents’ Association says it’s unhappy Derby Road has been chosen as a location for the series. It’s keen for residents to understand what’s happening in their neighbourhood, and for them to have an opportunity to question filmmakers Love Productions about concerns and issues.

Nazrul Chaudhery, chair of Newtown Residents’ Association, said: “Our neighbourhood is diverse and harmonious. We get on regardless of ethnicity; where people were born is not an issue. The filming of immigration is a very emotive subject and will draw strong opinions from all sides which is always the case – however we don’t want our neighbourhood being portrayed in the manner that is not true.”

The meeting takes place at Maytree School on Derby Road at 6pm.
