Springer Spaniel 'Chip', who lives in Bitterne Park with owner Andy, is cock-a-hoop after giving birth to seven pups over the course of the evening and morning of March 22-23.
It was thought she’d need a Cesarean, and she was on the way to the vet in Winchester last night. But one pup was born in the car, then another off the motorway, and so it went on until by 11.30pm, now at the vet, five of the pups had come into the world.
And by this morning the total had reached seven.
The puppies are a cross between the father, who is an Alsatian/Labrador, and Chip who is a Springer Spaniel.
We hope to provide you with further updates on the pups’ progress, but for the moment, it’s congratulations to Chip, who is, understandably, rather protective of her offspring!
