Farewell to Kingston's

It looks like it's farewell to well-known independent retailer Kingston’s, which it’s thought has been in the auto spares trade in Portswood since 1930.

The shop apparently stopped trading from its premises on the corner of Portswood Road and Portswood Avenue about three weeks ago, and was rapidly converted into a further dining area for the 7 Bone Burger Co next door.

In its heyday Kingston’s employed five people, but various changes in the industry reduced demand for home servicing items.

John Hayward went behind the scenes at Kingston’s for portswood.info in 2008; you can still read his piece, ‘Spare a moment for Kingston’s’.

It’s thought that the business hasn’t moved elsewhere. We weren’t able to contact Kingston's for comment.
