Gorillas Technologies Ltd is applying for a licence from 8am until midnight seven days a week for the 133 Portswood Road premises.
The proposal is for a “warehouse delivering groceries, food and drinks including alcohol for online sales and delivery at customer’s home or office address”.
“The public are not admitted to the premises as it is only a delivery operation,” stresses the applicant.
There are various conditions on the licence proposed, including around proof of age of recipients, and only delivering alcohol to residential or business addresses.
A number of public comments on the application have been filed, generally detailing concerns about possible noise close to a residential area, opening hours, delivery hours, traffic impact and safety, the number of other licensed premises in the area, and whether the business might in future apply to do other things including allowing public access.
Highfield Residents’ Association noted, among other points, that the Blockbuster's building is an “iconic” feature in Portswood, and asked how the warehouse would look externally.
