A “part retrospective” planning application for a “first floor extension and fire escape staircase” at the Persian Cultural Centre on Manor Farm Road has been lodged.

According to planning documents, “The intention is to develop a lightweight structure accessed from the first-floor office space for the storage of event furniture. The storage space will be a flat roof structure connected to the existing building, with very limited visibility from the street.”
Two objections from St Catherines Road addresses have been filed to date, mainly expressing concerns that outdoor parts of the building might be used for alcohol consumption and entertainment so close to a residential area.
“We have no objection to the entertainment this Persian centre will offer as long as it remains inside the building and their back door (at the back of their building) stays closed at all times,” said one.
As reported, at a licensing meeting last month it was stressed that there would be no use of the outdoor space without a further application.
