It fell opposite number 76 Cobden Avenue causing damage to the boundary wall and falling into the garden.
It is currently being cut to clear the route.
The tree reportedly “snapped at the base” rather than becoming uprooted, which happened when a tree fell from Deepdene in 2017, Then that tree also blocked the road, and caused considerable damage to a nearby property..
It's thought no one has been hurt as a result of the tree falling today, but Southampton Travel has warned the road could be closed for much of the day.
This morning the road was closed to pedestrians as well as other vehicles.
Southampton Travel urged people to avoid the area.
