The Planning Inspectorate’s decision, made on July 5, noted that HGVs collect merchandise from Byronswell Ltd, a textile recycling company at the site, “approximately three times a month to ship it overseas”.
As previously reported, the use of large industrial vehicles driving through residential areas has long been a source of complaint for St Denizens living in nearby roads which provide the only access route to the site.
The inspector dismissed an appeal made by the company against an enforcement notice issued by Southampton City Council to: “Cease the use of the land as a clothing/textile recycling centre (B8 use) and remove any equipment brought onto the land for such purposes”.
An appeal by the company against a city council decision to refuse an application for change of use to storage and distribution for the site in November 2020 was also dismissed by the planning inspector.
