In an update on the scheme, Cllr Jeremy Moulton, deputy leader and cabinet member for growth, left, said that traffic surveys carried out before and after the installation of trial Active Travel Zone modal filters – which stop drivers using particular roads – showed a significant reduction on virtually all roads in the area.
South Road, however, “has seen a very minor increase”.
Four ‘no idling’ signs will also be installed in the area “in the near future”, as one of the most popular suggestions for how the area could be improved during consultations was to “ask drivers to turn off their engines at the railway crossing.”
Moulton said the review period will be extended for another six months, until November this year.
“I also have discussed with council planners the issue of commercial vehicles coming to and from the industrial estate [on Kent Road] and I will make sure that planning conditions are enforced by the council,” he said in his update.
