The council says that since the launch of hire scooters in Southampton, riders have travelled nearly 270,000 miles, or 11 times around the world, and have reduced their carbon footprint by an estimated 28.1 tons of Co2, replacing an estimated 50,000 car journeys in the city.

But the authority says the safety video “is a reminder for those wanting to experience this new and fun mode of transport to act, think and ride safely".

It addes: “The video highlights important safety messages, such as riders should wear a helmet, how to park responsibly in dedicated racks, and that using a private e-scooter in public spaces is illegal, unlike renting a Voi.”

The video, from Southampton City Council and e-scooter company Voi, is at  https://youtu.be/yfwoRE46v4g
