'Issue certainly isn’t over yet' - AXO

Updated: Eastleigh Borough Council (EBC) reports that two applications to appeal against its decision to permit the airport runway extension have been refused, although AXO, which campaigns against the extension, says the matter "is far from resolved" and that it's still "confident about the challenge to the planning permission".

The two applications to appeal are from Bournemouth International Airport Ltd, and the Group Opposed to the Expansion of Southampton Airport Ltd (GOESA).
EBC council leader Keith House (Lib Dem) said: “This is good news and supports the decision made by the Council to permit Southampton International Airport Ltd’s application to extend its runway. Councillors robustly considered a large number of representations from a wide range of stakeholders, as well as examining extensive evidence."
"The Council considered that the decision was taken in line with relevant legislation and planning policy frameworks. We were confident that both the way in which the decision was taken, and the arguments to justify it, were lawful and sound and this has been supported by the High Court," he added.
EBC says the applicants have seven days to appeal the decisions.
The BBC reported the owners of Bournemouth Airport were “disappointed with the decision” and considering their options.
A spokesperson from Airport eXpansion Opposition Southampton (AXO), which is a contributor to the funding of the GOESA appeal, told bitternepark.info that “the application has been refused on paper but there is the opportunity to have the application renewed and heard in open court, and we are taking the advice of our legal team”.
“The issue certainly isn’t over yet and we’re still confident about our challenge,” they added.
