Plans to extend Itchen College in Middle Road, Bitterne with five new classrooms and two offices go before the council’s Planning and Rights of Way Panel next Tuesday (Dec 14).

The college currently has 1,350 students but the two-storey expansion would allow it to accommodate an extra 135 learners.

Planning officers at Southampton City Council have described the plans as acceptable and recommended them for approval.

But 18 letters of objections have been sent to the authority, with several residents raising concerns over traffic and parking.

However, the City of Southampton Society has backed the proposals, saying the expansion would free up space for parking and remove traffic congestion along White’s Road.

Next week’s meeting of the Planning and Rights of Way Panel will begin at 4pm and can be watched online.

Plans and comments can be viewed on the council’s planning portal.
