Residents have launched a petition calling for a 20mph speed limit on Manor Farm Road.

They say the area is almost entirely residential, with much use by families and children attending schools.
“We believe that a 10mph reduction in the speed limit will bring a safer and less stressful environment for residents of, and visitors to, Manor Farm Road,” says the petition – which is here and runs until January 3.
There have also recently been calls for 20mph zones on various other Bitterne Park roads, including Glenfield Avenue, roads around Whitworth, and on Oaktree, St Catherines and Dimond Roads: more from this link.
The full text of the Manor Farm Road petition reads:
“We the undersigned petition the council to create a 20mph speed limit on Manor Farm Road. The council has committed funding for implementing 20mph limits in residential areas of the city where feasible and where there is strong community support. Manor Farm Road is almost entirely residential, with an Infants and Junior School in the middle and shops at Bitterne Park Triangle, plus a bus route between the Triangle and Nursery Road. Pavements on this road are used daily by families walking, scooting and cycling to Riverside Park and to the two primary schools and by older children accessing Bitterne Park School, on foot, by bus and bicycle and having to cross the road. Vehicles using Manor Farm Road are mostly en route to and from the City Centre and to other destinations and many drive over the current speed limit. This is unacceptable. We believe that a 10mph reduction in the speed limit will bring a safer and less stressful environment for residents of, and visitors to, Manor Farm Road.”
