Southampton City Council says there’s already a temporary 30mph speed limit on Bassett Avenue and The Avenue which was introduced in May 2020 “to improve safety along the corridor, which has historically experienced a high number of road traffic collisions”.

The reduced speed limit, it says, also “supports a safer environment for those using the cycle facilities which have been developed along the route”.

It adds that the proposals “form part of a wider package of road safety improvements in the local area”.

The consultation runs until February 11 via the council’s transport website
