The Friends of Bitterne Station and the Friends of Cobbett Road Library are among 19 groups to secure a slice of £148,621 from the city council’s Community Fund.
The local winners were one of four organisations to win funds under the ‘Protecting Communities’ section, with a proposal to regenerate an area of Macnaghten Road that in the past has suffered from a lack of TLC.
£1,386.82 was awarded for: “Regenerating the recycling and glass bank area between Bitterne Station and Cobbett Road with creative and innovative features, to become a space that can be used to promote green behaviours and promote the work of their group.”
Friends of Bitterne Station said they are “enthusiastic about the funds received and look forward to improving the area for the local community and wildlife”.
The next round for organisations seeking funding will open later this year – more information from https://www.southampton.gov.uk/people-places/grants-funding/community-fund/, which also incudes details of all the current awards.
