Orignal story:
Many national and international aid organisations have set up appeals to help support and protect people caught up in the Ukraine conflict, and local collections are also being made - including at the Polish Social Club and Jupider store in Bitterne Park.
Locally the Polish Social Club are taking donations which will be sent to Medyka (the Polish-Ukrainian border) from Southampton.
They are asking for donations of:
- Nappies & wet wipes, including nappies for elderly
- Dry sanitary products
- Thermal clothes, gloves (it is stressed that no clothing other than thermal is currently being collected)
- Batteries, flashlights, candles
- Food for children – long term & dry
- Warm blankets, sleeping bags
- Painkillers and dressings
- Face masks & hand gels
- Dog/cat food
They ask for all donations to be in a box, which will be stored and displayed in the Polish Club before being sent over.
You can donate at The Polish Social Club 507 Portswood Road, SO17 2TH. Days and times vary – check in on their Facebook page for the latest information. https://www.facebook.com/PolskiKlubSouthampton/
The club has however apologised on the page for not being able to reply to all messages:
“Our mailboxes are overloaded, we assure you that we do not ignore anyone, but we can't physically respond to everyone. Please read the posts on face book carefully, which are updated on a regular basis. Also please remember that we DO NOT COLLECT CLOTHES at the momment,” read a post on Tuesday.
In Bitterne Park the Jupider convenience store, on corner of Bond and St Catherine’s Roads, is also a collection point and will deliver appropriate boxed items left at the shop to the main collection at the Polish Club in Portswood by Saturday (March 5).
Many national and international aid organisations have also set up appeals to help support and protect people caught up in this conflict.
You can make a financial donation to places like the British Red Cross or UNICEF via their websites.
