Over £1300 was raised at a musical, arts and performance benefit event for Ukrainian refugees at St Denys Boat Club on Saturday (April 2).

It was part of Southampton Plays for Ukraine, an ‘emergency’ music festival running across the city and beyond to raise funds for the cause.

At the Boat Club the audience was treated to a wide-ranging and local bill that ranged from Ukrainian story-telling to theatre and live music, complete with an auction by local artists.
It was also a chance to enjoy refreshments, socialise with friends – and for some a chance to dance!
“There was art, music, cake, dancing, laughter, talking, smiling and generosity,” said one of the organisers, Julian Harrow.
“We were mechanically delighted, serenaded, amused, entertained and supported. Thanks to the artists, performers, helpers and organisers who gave their time and talent for free we raised a whopping £1300 + ( final total tbc) for humanitarian relief for Ukranian refugees. Well done St Denys.”

Louise Owen, one of the art auction organisers, said: “About £500 was raised, by the sale of donated art, of the final approx £1300, from [Saturday's] St Denys Boat Club - Music in The City - Southampton Plays For Ukraine week long festival. Absolutely stunning. Thanks again to all for their incredible generosity."
