Southampton Travel confirmed the news in a tweet on Thursday lunchtime.

They said:
“Temporary traffic lights for the @SouthernWater works at Cobden Bridge will be removed this afternoon ahead of the bank holiday weekend. Works will then continue on Tuesday 19 April and temporary signals back will be back in use again from Tuesday morning.”
The lights enabling single file traffic around Souther Water work on the bridge have caused queues of cars in both directions, and not only during ‘rush hour’.

Some people on social media expressed surprise that they were permitted at the same time as other work in Swaythling that also caused delays earlier in the week, including for those trying to use the alternative Woodmill route over the river.

There are temporary lights at both sides across town, St Denys and Swaythling. The signs there say as of today but there’s no finish date. It took me an hour to get home at 2 pm, from Portswood to the triangle. Tonight’s traffic must be murder.
