The lights that allow single-file traffic past Southern Water roadworks, cause tailbacks in both directions through ‘rush hour’ periods – and well beyond.
They’re also an issue for cyclists, who have to pull out into the traffic as the westbound cycle lane disappears around the roadworks.
Priory Road (north) is also closed to vehicles from the junction, and more temporary lights on Portswood Road near Sainsbury’s for at least some of this week haven’t helped those trying to use the alternative Woodmill route.
The works are now listed on the council’s interactive roadworks map, supplied by onenetwork, as lasting until April 29.

Previously they were listed as due to finish on April 22, and a site sign, above, said the lights would be in place from April 11 for 10 days.
It’s unknown whether work is now running on schedule, and whether lights will be removed in time for the upcoming bank holiday weekend.
The temporary lights were temporarily removed over the Easter weekend as work paused.
Southern Water were invited to clarify and comment. If they do we’ll endeavour to update this piece.
