
Local food banks report they’re now out of stock on 12 different items, and “urgently” need to top up supplies.
Southampton City Mission, a Christian organisation that provides emergency food and clothing via a referral voucher system through ‘Basics Banks’ around the city, said on social media: “URGENT food needed - now more than ever your local food bank needs you. We are now out of stock on 12 different items.”
On the list are the following:
Tinned Hot Meat
Tinned Cold meat
Cook-in sauces
Coffee
Tinned fruit
Custard
Hot chocolate
Jams & spreads
Tinned Carrots
Tinned mixed veg
Tinned rice pudding
Pet food (dogs)
City Mission went on to thank all those who already donate, and explained that “we try to give out as many practical meals as we can. Tinned hot meat is a staple in all our parcels”.
Nearby supermarkets with food collection points include branches of Sainsbury’s including in Portswood and Bitterne.
Donations can also be dropped off at the Basics Bank at Bitterne Park Triangle on Wednesdays 10am-3pm.
Clothes donations can be dropped at the clothes bank, Ascension Church, also on Wednesdays from 10am-2.30pm.
