For those able to travel a little further than they used to since the closure of the Cobbett Road library here’s a brief roundup of some upcoming events.

A story time session has been added at Bitterne Library on Saturdays from 11.15 – 12noon.

The council reports in its library news update:

“We know that story time isn't accessible to everyone on weekdays so we've added an extra one at Bitterne Library on Saturdays!

“Story time is a fun and interactive singing activity designed for under 5s. The session is free and there is no need to book - just turn up!”

There is also a regular rhyme-time session at Bitterne Library on Wednesdays at 2pm.

To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, there’s also a family fun day, including craft activities for children that to do in the library or take home on Saturday, May 28 from 1pm – 3pm.

Refreshments will also be available, including tea, coffee, cake and scones provided by The Friends of Bitterne Library and library staff, and the Mayor of Southampton will be helping plant a tree in the garden and unveil a plaque to celebrate the Jubilee.

Bitterne Library is on Bitterne Road East, Southampton, SO18 5EG

There’s also a ‘Make your own crown & golden carriage’ event on Wednesday June 1, from 2pm to 4pm.

As reported in March, any interested parties had until April 5 to get in, among other things, a “financially sustainable plan” to the council. It’s thought at least one did apply.

The council previously said any successful ‘bidder’ would take over “After 1st June 2022”. Let’s hope it’s quite soon after then, and the new administration offers an update soon.
