Leisure centre could be reopened under Labour

It looks as if Labour, which won control of the council at the local elections, is likely to reopen St Mary’s Leisure Centre.

The previous Conservative administration had decided to sell off the facility despite a vocal community campaign to keep the listed building as a leisure centre.

Asked on Twitter on May 10 whether there will be “new investment” at the venue, Satvir Kaur, who is set to become the Labour leader of the council next week, responded: “Labour formally take control on May 18th - after which we will start our plans to make repairs and reopen."
