Southampton’s incoming Labour administration has reportedly said a new park and ride has “not been ruled out” for Bitterne after a scheme was withdrawn by the previous Conservative council. Talks are also expected over Townhill Park housing - and there could be new plans for Bitterne Precinct.

Talks are expected with residents following the delays to the Townhill Park housing plans, where apparently fewer than 10% of planned homes have been built since the original masterplan was approved.
“[N]ew plans to improve Bitterne precinct, as well as other neighbourhoods across the city” could also be on the cards, according to the BBC.
As reported, in October the then Conservative administration said that a planned park and transport hub at Lances Hill in Bitterne, designed to “provide sustainable alternative ways to travel”, wouldn’t go ahead because residents feared it would “create chaos” and increase traffic, pollution and anti-social behaviour.
The Tories also scrapped multimillion-pound plans for the ‘Bittene Hub’ development in the Precinct which had been previously been approved by Labour.
Proposals for slowing traffic along Bedford Place and pedestrian areas on nearby roads are also reportedly “under review”.
