A ‘School Street’ is the term used for the closure of a road outside a school so parents and guardians can drop off and/or meet their children safely, without cars on the road.

The only drivers allowed down a School Street during operational hours are residents -and they are asked to drive at walking speed and with their hazards flashing.

As reported, the scheme is currently being tested at Bitterne Park secondary School, with the closure to vehicles of a short section of Dimond Road for half an hour at the end of the school day.
