Residents are planning a meeting on Monday (Aug 1) “to discuss collectively how [they] can challenge the current plans and draft a list of objections” to Sovereign Housing Association’s initial proposals for 82 homes on the former St Mary’s School playing fields.

We reported at the start of July that Sovereign Housing Association is planning the development on the fields.

Their goal is to “receive a planning decision by the end of this year, with a view to starting work in 2023”.

The housing association expects “the first homes on the site ready for occupation by the end of 2023”.

But a letter distributed to nearby homes is publicising an outdoor resident meeting on Monday at 6.30pm at the top of Monastery Road, weather permitting, to discuss objections that “could then be put forward to the Council when the proposal is made formal”.

There will also be the opportunity to join a resident WhatsApp group about the issue, according to the letter.
