The Met Office issued an Amber warning, that included Southampton, for Thursday (Aug 11) to Sunday (Aug 14). It said: "Temperatures will increase across much of the UK over the coming week. Temperatures will be highest across parts of England and Wales with these peaking on Friday and Saturday. In addition to high daytime maxima, temperatures overnight will remain very warm, especially in larger urban areas."
Age UK Southampton stressed: "Older people in the community can be vulnerable to the heat, therefore it is important to be aware of the best ways to stay safe and healthy during expected heatwaves."
Chief Officer, Peter Bennie said:“But perhaps the best protection of all is to avoid going out during the hottest part of the day which is usually between 11am and 3pm," he added. " You can also keep your home cooler by closing your curtains and blinds during the sunny hours and turning off any electrical appliances that are not being used as these can generate unnecessary heat – and reduce your energy costs at the same time. And don’t be afraid to take it easy during the hottest part of the day and leave any strenuous chores for when it’s cooler.”
