Local news website celebrates 17th birthday

cake 308576 640We like to mark the website's birthday when we think of it, and even its age when we're feeling confident maths-wise, so we're pleased to bring you the news that bitternepark.info is celebrating its 17th birthday this September.

Our email digest, which goes out on Fridays on many weeks of the year, is also celebrating, having hit its seventh anniversary.

Looking in the archive, back in the ‘pilot’ edition of the email digest in 2015 we were talking about taking a historical audio tour of St Denys (still available to listen to); messing about on the river - itself a 2011 feature (and still available perhaps for a timely read given Saturday's river festival and other current river news); and we included a video of Graham Cotton picking our survey draw winners in his bakery, which may raise a smile (yes, you've guessed it: it's still available to view on our website, as is most of what we've ever covered since the site started in 2005!).

And a selection of stories from 2005, when the website itself started, includes news of a Bitterne Park ward by-election, that of a council and police Crime Reduction & Environment Week in St Denys, and a strange report about 2250 ducks racing down the river for charity

[That last one sounds familiar: Ed. Plus ça change!]
