Phased work on resurfacing a section of Bitterne Road West is planned from October 4 until November 3, with work being completed “mostly at night”.

The council’s contractor Balfour Beatty said in a letter to nearby residents: “...we are resurfacing the carriageway and raising the manhole covers of Bitterne Road West between the junction of Bullar Road to outside number 189, including the junction of Cobbett Road and Bitterne Road West.”
The contractor explained that the work will take place in phases as follows:
“Week 1 - Westbound road closure 8pm – 6am, lane restriction in place during the day as seen in the map below.
Week 2 - Works continue with a westbound road closure 8pm – 6am, with no restrictions during the day.
Week 3 - Eastbound road closure 8pm – 6am, no daytime restrictions
Week 4 - Westbound road closure 8pm – 6am with lane restrictions in place accessible at all times.
Week 5 - Eastbound road closure 8pm – 6am which will be reduced to a lane closure during these hours where possible.”
While work will mostly be completed at night, there will be road closures or road restrictions at these times with a signed diversion route.
Work will however apparently involve a 24-hour single lane closure in the lane 1 westbound between October 5 – 9.
Further work to complete high-friction surfacing, which will also involve night road closures, will then take place “in a few months”. Pedestrian access isn't mentioned.
