The plan is to raise the issue ahead of the next River Itchen inquiry meeting in November, to which organisers say Southern Water has been invited.
Organised by Southampton National Park City, the event page on Facebook says: “Plan - bring yourselves, your kids, any paddle boards/boats/rafts etc (optional). Please take safety precautions such as life jackets and only use equipment you are familiar with. Being in land is ok too.
“Exact location is at riverside park, Woodmill end, opposite the Portswood sewage works by the bench where there is water access.
There will be speakers and the media will be invited
WEAR POO EMOJI COSTUMES “
It takes place from 1 – 3pm.
Southern Water told the Daily Echo this month releases from the Portswood treatment works are in compliance with their permit which allows them to discharge excess volumes at times of increased rainfall, and that releases “have already been subject to at least initial treatment, and are typically made up of around 95 per cent rainwater.”
