As reported, Sovereign Housing Association’s planning application to build 84 dwellings on part of former St Mary’s School grounds has been lodged with the council.
Sovereign says: “The plans seek to deliver an attractive, high-quality development of 84 new family homes of predominately two and three bedrooms, affordable housing in excess of council policy and extensive areas of public open space, including play space, within a parkland setting”.
Opponents have already commented on the application citing a range of issues, including making current cul-de-sac Monastery Road the only road access point, the design of the scheme, an increase in traffic on nearby roads, the impact on local services such as schools and GP surgeries, the effect on wildlife and loss of a greenspace.
At the time of writing there are 36 public objections on the council’s planning portal – and more are anticipated as the “last opportunity to stop this development” is publicised by the residents’ ‘Development Opposition Committee’.
The decision is likely to be heard at a future Planning and Rights of Way Panel meeting.
