Protesters, many in costume, gathered by the Itchen on Saturday (Nov 12) to kick up a stink about sewage.

They called for real-time online information about any discharges. Speaker Gavin Millar, above left, said without warnings "the health of the people who paddle on the river, swim in the river, row on the river, [is] at risk." Southampton City Council is currently conducting an inquiry into the River Itchen - the next meeting, open to the public, is on November 17. Southern Water has previously said releases are in compliance with its Environment Agency permit.
