We've been posting on Twitter since 2010, but we're currently testing an alternative known as Mastodon. If you already use it you can find us here. If you'd like to learn more about it, then read on.
There are now apparently over a million users across the Mastodon network, with it seeing rapid growth since the takeover of Twitter.
It's a bit different to networks you may be familiar with, so here's a bit more information about how it works.
Not only does the name refer to an elephant-like mammal, it's also an open-source, decentralised system that's been around a while and in many ways resembles Twitter.
It can seem like a bit of a palaver signing up because there's no one central place to do it; rather, you have to choose which 'server' or 'instance' to sign up with. But, ignoring the jargon, it's not really that hard, and once signed up you can follow people on other servers as each communicates with the others.
If you're interested there's one simple getting started guide we quickly found here, another here, and many more out there if you search.
If you're already using Mastodon or fancy giving it a go, we hope to see you there: we're currently at @This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (where mas.to is the server we signed up with) so you can search us out if you want. Again: you wouldn't have to use the same server that we chose to follow us - although you could if they're currently accepting new registrations.
We're going to do some test posts, find our feet, and see what happens.
Feel free to say hello over there!
