Southampton City Council is set to introduce tariffs for using its electric vehicle charging points in December.

The council first introduced electric vehicle (EV) charging points in 2018, offering them on a “free to use” basis for a limited period.
It says this was intended to encourage the early take-up of EVs in the city.
It now has 47 charging units operating in 17 locations - some listed on this council web page - and is the city's largest single provider.
With the increased use of EVs expected to continue, the authority says its chargers have seen a seven-fold increase in use since the start of the year. But it says the cost of providing this is becoming increasingly unsustainable, and its focus “must now turn to ensuring we can maintain a reliable service for our users and investment in more charging options”.
Fees for using council charging points start on December 12.
“Charges will be consistent with other providers and not include any connection or subscription costs,” says the authority.
