Alex Bluemel, who took these photos, told bitternepark.info they were taken "around 21:50".
He said: "There were at least three fire engines and the road was closed. Looked like just the one houseboat involved, immediately upriver of the 4 new ones."
One person was "treated for smoke", according to Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said:
"A house boat residing on the River Itchen in Southampton has been destroyed by a fire.
"Control firefighters were alerted at 21:16, and sent crews from St Mary’s and Hightown to extinguish the fire and protect the surrounding area.
