Southampton Central Station set for £5.5m revamp

southampton central station graphic supplied SCC Southampton Central Station is set for a £5.5 million revamp to upgrade the southern forecourt accessed from Western Esplanade.

The council says the area will benefit from a new multi-modal interchange that will enable improved pedestrian access, include safer crossing points, additional bus stop provision, disabled parking, along with better access into and out of the station for all vehicles.

It adds work will deliver “improved waiting areas including a new cruise passenger waiting lounge with real-time information, increased access to sustainable travel options, improved taxi rank, drop off facilities and improved car parking and loading facilities”.

Work is funded by South Western Railway and the government’s Transforming Cities Fund and is planned to start on Monday, February 13 and expected to be completed in November.
