Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Barbour hailed it as "a historic moment".
“It’s a historic moment where the people of Portswood have recognised that things need to be done differently and I’m just really thankful and grateful to all the local people who put their trust in me,” she said.
“I think it’s probably about the work all year round that has paid off so it’s now the fifth time I’ve stood in Portswood.
“I’ve become well known and I think people were very exercised by the issue of Portswood Broadway and they wanted someone to represent their views at the council.”
She added that people liked the fact she had an ‘independent voice’.
