London-based Iranian multimedia artist Bijan Moosavi will debut his work ‘GHT.2058: Asylo-جنّت' at the Southampton venue on June 24.
Presented by 'a space' arts as part of their Art for Climate Action Programme, the exhibition aims to transport viewers to a fictional near-future climate dystopia shaped by what’s described as “neoliberal negligence and greed”.
The installation features materials and media hinting at climate catastrophes, science fiction dystopias, and marketing overhype.
Inside the main gallery visitors will encounter an artificially-lit room, divided by security fences into cell-like spaces resembling a detention centre. LED-decorated metal bed frames, plastic roses, and fake KAWS companion figurines will adorn each cell. Digital screens will act as windows to the outside world, displaying CGI footage of the partially submerged historic venue’s tower in 2058.
The exhibition looks set to raise questions about profit-driven ideologies, exploitation by global polluters, and the plight of climate-displaced asylum seekers.
GHT.2058: Asylo-جنّت runs at God's House Tower, Southampton SO14 2NY from Saturday, June 24 until Sunday August 13. Free entry. Further information here.
