It’s understood that around £60k of funding will be used to revamp what’s described by a local councillor as a “much neglected local play park” off Steuart Road.
New play equipment, including a ‘multi-unit’, swings and see saw, and improved accessibility are planned for the large grass play area, although there’s currently no timetable for the work as it will be subject to a procurement process.
Nonetheless Cllr Tony Bunday (Labour, Bitterne Park) said that he’d been pursuing the park upgrades and was “delighted to be able to pass this good news on to local residents”.
The refurbishment doesn’t cover the multi-use games area closer to Quayside Road, which suffers from other issues including flooding and poor fencing, and is “subject to separate discussions”, said Cllr Bunday.
