The idea has been publicised following funding being secured by the council for creating safer routes to schools.
Now, users of local schools have been encouraged to complete a council ‘perception survey’ about how they use the road, and what improvements could be made.
Writing on his Facebook page, Cllr Phil Webb (Lab, Bitterne Park) flagged the survey, saying: “I am pleased to circulate further information regarding a potential pedestrian crossing on Mousehole Lane, and would encourage residents to respond to the survey.”

Fellow Labour ward councillor Tony Bunday wrote on Facebook: “I have been campaigning for a safe crossing to be installed on Mousehole Lane. Children going to and from about 7 schools have to cross this road here. If you live locally you can help to shape and achieve this.”
Southampton City Council introduces its ‘Safer Routes to Schools survey by explaining it’s been successful in “securing Active Travel Fund (ATF) funding improvements to create Safer Routes to Schools”.
It says one of the “roads covered by this funding is Beechwood Junior, Glenfield Infants (Mousehole Lane)”.
“We would like to hear from users of Beechwood Junior, Glenfield Infants (Mousehole Lane) about how they travel the road currently, for what reasons and by what mode as well as what they would like to see improved. With a focus in the funding terms on walking and cycling we would like to know what improvements could be made to make Beechwood Junior, Glenfield Infants (Mousehole Lane) a more attractive place for these modes.”
The survey appears to be open to all, and is available here. The closing date isn’t clear.
• As reported, work is expected to start on a new pedestrian crossing on Townhill Way near Moorlands School during the summer holidays, after lengthy resident campaigns.
