There’s still no date for the reopening of the Riverside Park pontoon which has been shut to the public pending repairs for around six months

It’s understood that one of the steel wires stabilising the pontoon failed in late January, although the Friends of Riverside Park tweeted in June: “The last we heard was that it's not as simple as reattaching it due to tidal movements. And that part of the revetment (bank) may need to be rebuilt.”
We asked the council for an update on their estimated timescale for the work and subsequent reopening, and for any provisional plans for the repair.
A spokesperson responded: “We are still in the process of working with suppliers and engineers to establish the most cost effective and safe solution for refurbishing the pontoon. Once completed we can program and share delivery dates.”
When we asked the council a similar question at the start of June, and to clarify the nature of the repairs required, they commented:
“Our team are in the process of working with engineers to identify the most appropriate, cost effective and safe solution for repairing the damage to the pontoon, or replacing it. Once the options have been assessed and costed, we will be able to put a firm date in the diary for the work to be undertaken.”
More as, when and if we get it, then.
