Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, which encourages thousands of volunteers and supporters to organise events that allow the public to discover hidden places and try out new experiences.

St Denys Church is opening its doors from September 8-17 for adventure, music and history.

There will be the chance to explore the church during guided walks, watch the documentary ‘A Passion for churches’ by Sir John Betjeman, and enjoy a performance by a local pop-rock group that will close the week.

For younger visitors, there's a scavenger hunt where they can win prizes by finding listed items throughout the church.

Liam Montgomery, Heritage Open Days marketing & projects manager, said: “Whether it’s art, music, writing, or another outlet, creativity moves us and shapes our history and culture. We’re excited to put the spotlight on the people and places who give England’s heritage the X-factor and inspire festival-goers to engage with thousands of years of creativity.”

All events are free, and no booking is required, “just show up for the day and celebrate our heritage with us,” says the church.
